TITLE: Assistant Director of Search and Rescue Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of SAR Operations
MEMBER OF COMMITTEES: Voting member of Operations Committee
TERM: 2 years
REQUIRED PREREQUISITES / ASSETS / SKILLS:
o A thorough knowledge of Cariboo Regional District (CRD), Provincial and Federal policies, procedures and regulations related to SAR operations.
o A general knowledge of SAR operations.
o Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
o Ability to organize and chair operational meetings.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist and / or "fill-in-for" the Director of SAR Operations in the completion of the following responsibilities:
o Responsible for the delivery of Central Cariboo Search and Rescue services as required by the RCMP, Emergency Health Services, or Provincial Emergency Program.
o Operate under the administrative direction of the CRD Supervisor of Services, and in accordance with established policies procedures and objectives.
o To advise and recommend to Supervisor of Services on operational policies and procedures.
o Endeavor to ensure operational tasks are conducted as outlined in the Justice Institute of BC search and rescue training manuals.
o Ensure that equipment and resource needs are identified.
o Carry out administrative duties that relate to search and rescue operations.
o Be available to respond to calls as required or delegate that responsibility to other operational personnel.
o Monitor the successes as well as identify opportunities for improvement in the operation of
CCSAR.
o Chair the Operations Committee in the absence of the Director.
o Manage the planning of the unit, including: training, budgeting, preparedness, communications, property, equipment, logistics.
o Serve as the contact for effective public relations within the community on SAR matters, within the parameters of the Cariboo Regional District policy.
