TITLE:    Director of Search and Rescue Operations

REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Services

MEMBER OF COMMITTEES: Chair, Operations Committee

TERM:  Two years

REQUIRED PREREQUISITES / ASSETS / SKILLS:
•    A thorough knowledge I of Cariboo Regional District (CRD), Provincial and Federal policies, procedures and regulations related to SAR operations.
•    A general knowledge of SAR operations.
•    Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
•    Ability to organize and chair operational meetings.


DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Responsible for the delivery of Central Cariboo Search and Rescue services as required by the RCMP, Emergency Health Services, or Provincial Emergency Program.
•    Operate under the administrative direction of the CRD Supervisor of Services, and in accordance with established policies procedures and objectives.
•    To advise and recommend to the Supervisor of Services on operational policies and procedures.
•    Endeavor to ensure operational tasks are conducted as outlined in the Justice Institute of BC search and rescue training manuals.
•    Ensure that equipment and resource needs are identified.
•    Carry out administrative duties that relate to search and rescue operations.
•    Be available to respond to calls as required or delegate that responsibility to other operational personnel.
•    Monitor the successes as well as identify opportunities for improvement in the operation of CCSAR.
•    Chair the Operations Committee.
•    Manage the planning of the unit, including: training, budgeting, preparedness, communications, property, equipment, logistics.
•    Serve as the contact for effective public relations within the community on SAR matters, within the parameters of Cariboo Regional District policy.

METHOD OF SELECTION / APPOINTMENT: Elected by the SAR members and approved by the Supervisor of Services.
